Based on the novel of 1870 by Jules Verne, this is classic fiction - a delicious mix of scientific endeavour and pure unadulterated fantasy. We follow the mysterious Captain Nemo in his other-worldly submarine, before the days when submarines had been invented, as he terrorises shipping. It is believed that an enormous sea creature is living in the ocean, but those brave men who are sent to rid the sea of this menace soon discover the underwater vessel and are invited aboard. Together they explore the oceans of the world including the fictional Atlantis. It is astonishing how Jules Verne was able to foresee the submarine as we know it today, he was prophetic in his description of the high speed and secret conduct of today's nuclear attack submarines, although the Nautilus needed to re-surface every 48 hours to get fresh air which is not necessary with modern technology.
